World Cup Ready

12 Feb

My favorite part about soccer is the toddler lingo they use to explain the game.  If you ask Lucas if he has learned to “dribble,” he’ll adamantly tell you that he has not.  For they aren’t dribbling in his soccer class (or spitting, as he will sometimes point out), they are kicking “yellow light” on the field — a nice slow job and controlled kick.  They also kick green light, stop red light and sometimes get fancy and blue light (run in circles around the ball).

photo[1]He loves acting like a “shark” and trying to steal the ball from his coaches, and is sure that he is the fastest runner on the team during warm up drills.  Four years ago, I can’t imagine wanting to get up, dressed and out of the house to a sporting event first thing Saturday morning, but I love watching him play.
