Yo Ho Ho

25 Nov

Lucas is all about pirates.

Every single day (and night, and morning, and lunchtime), he wants to play pirates.  It started with the Disney Junior show “Jake and the Neverland Pirates” and has expanded to an incredible world of make believe, imagination that has our carpet transformed into the ocean and our throw pillows as boats. Our roles vary — Benny is sometimes cast as a pirate parrot and I’m regularly Captain Hook.  Lucas can be a neverland pirate, but more regularly plays the role of the captain.  What never changes is our constant hunt for alligators and the desire to send them flying out of our house with the flick of a wrist.

Here was the jolly old pirate clan one night last week, annoyed to be disturbed for picture taking while sailing the seas on the couch throw pillows and wearing “pirate hats” (also known as Phillies caps and hoods).  You may notice that the lead pirate was missing some articles of clothing, but he informed us that shirts are unnecessary for pirates because they need to swim and splash.

A few days after I took the above picture, I gifted Lucas his very own pirate costume, courtesy of a 75% off sale after Halloween.  The excitement level reached epic proportions and he has barely taken it off since.

imageEvery time we leave the house, we have to commence with an intense negotiation as to which article of the costume is allowed to come with us… and more specifically, if the allowed item can leave the car or only ride along until we get to our destination.

As you can see, sometimes I lose the battle and a pirate comes grocery shopping with me.
