Three Months Old

24 Oct

Dear Benjamin,

I rocked you extra long this morning.  You were particularly snuggly after eating and perfectly content with your head tucked under my chin.  We rocked and I explained that Mommy has to go away for work, but I’d come back.  I gave you the refrain that I taught your brother early and repeat often, “Mommy always comes back; Mommy is always with you.”  You are on the brink of hearing this frequently, as this coming month will mark your first day in daycare, but for now, you are still my tiny, snuggle bug.

3MonthsFinal-Ben

This month you perfected “the parental call back.” We’d rock you to sleep, lay your lovingly in your crib, watch you curl onto your side and wait till your hands and arms relaxed into a sweet sleeping position.  We’d then creep out of the room, but inevitably, as soon as our behinds hit the bed/couch, we’d hear the “parental call back” and be immediately summoned back to your room. Sleep was really at a premium this month, and you made us work for every bit we got!  It hurts my heart a bit to think that it may have been because you were in pain – struggling with reflux while we just assumed you were an ornery cuss.

But even despite the reflux and the lack of sleep, you are the best smiler I know.  Your smile is so big and wide mouthed that it’s hard to even capture in a photograph.  Half of the pictures of you smiling look like a big open mouth scream — you feel happiness that intensely.  You adore sitting up and staring at us, and we don’t need to work too hard to see your beautiful, gummy smile.

Benjamin, you are the perfect fourth in our family.  Happy, mild mannered, easy going… you are along for the wild ride that we are already on and are rather unphased by the tumbling turns and speedy twists.  Your big brother thinks the sun shines brightest when you are around, and his parents tend to agree.

I love you to the moon and back,

Your Mama
