Camp Gigi

14 Aug

GigiBoysCamp Gigi ended yesterday and Benjamin and I are already a bit lost without her.  He’s expressing his grief by sleeping all day – regardless of where I put him or how I try to rouse him.  I imagine he will enter the next stage of mourning around midnight when he chooses to be up all night since he slept all day.  Clearly, I’m looking forward to helping him through this all night long <if there was a sarcasm font, that last sentence would be written in it>.

I, on the other hand, alternate between picking at all the amazing leftovers that now reside in my kitchen and feeling so incredibly grateful to have had these past two weeks.  It’s hard to put words against that feeling of gratitude — when someone takes their precious vacation time, not to go to the beach, enjoy time at home or even do chores at their own house — no, they take their vacation time to do your laundry, make you dinner, bake many loaves of banana and zucchini bread, pick your oldest up from daycare and let your youngest nap on their shoulder.

Camp Gigi is a magical place.  It almost makes carrying a baby for nine months and pushing it out of your body seem like a fuzzy memory, something worth doing again just to get another round of in-home spoiling …. almost.

Thank you, thank you, Gigi.
