The Adjustment

8 Aug

There is no question that Lucas adores his brother.  As soon as he gets home from school, he runs to find Benjamin and rain kisses down upon him.  He rubs Ben’s head like its a Magic 8 Ball and is always trying to give hugs. When Benjamin cries, Lucas is one of the first to try and make him feel “happier” and yells at us to try and fix things for him.

But all that love… it doesn’t mean there hasn’t been a serious adjustment.  Transitioning from life as the center of our household to a shared spotlight has not been easy for Luke. Thankfully, he isn’t taking his frustrations out on Benjamin, but instead directing the bad behavior firmly at Tim and I.  Listening to directions… a thing of the past.  Temper tantrums and short fuses… our current reality.  Of course, pairing Luke’s lack of listening and tantrums with our broken sleep schedule has led to quite a lot of snapping at one another.

We’ve seen the above pictured “sad face” more than I’d care to admit over the past two and a half weeks.  We are all hoping the “adjustment phase” dwindles as we find the new normal around these parts.
