AvenueQ

5 Aug

While up at BlogHer, the awesome ladies of MamaDrama hooked me up with two tickets to AvenueQ at the New World Stages.

Whenever I mentioned that we’d be going while in New York, here’s the feedback I got: “oh my gawd, it’s hilarious” or “super inappropriate.”

And guess what? The show is super funny and wildly inappropriate; all packaged into a musical theater box of fun and tied with a bow of “cocktails served here” magic.

The musical details a recent graduate’s trek to independence while living on Avenue Q in New York City.  The other occupants of Avenue Q, a mix of humans and muppet-eque characters, help our hero (aptly named Princeton) find love, purpose and pride in this down-on-their-luck corner of NYC.

The cast – who play multiple characters throughout the show – was ridiculously talented.  By the middle of the performance, you are cheering for muppet love, pining for muppet heartbreak and blushing at muppet nudity.  None of which would be possible without awesome performances from all involved.

Songs like “Everyone’s a little bit racist” and “If you were gay…” will have you rolling on the floor, and I’m a firm believer that laughing that hard is good for the soul.

Tickets available here and well worth the price. I’m super grateful to MamaDramaNY for the tickets.  Check them both out on Facebook (MamaDrama and AvenueQ) to learn more.

Kelly did the song “Mix Tape” for her cabaret in high school. It was awesome:)

That was an awesome one too, T. The whole show was hilarious – so spot on for today’s culture.
