Toe Therapy

25 Jul

Luke’s beloved monkey remains his primary source of comfort and companionship in his crib.  When he sees it in the evenings, it’s a happy reunion – one filled with many exclamations of “monkey!” and lots of hugs and kisses.

And, as noted before, monkey’s tag is really the end all be all.  Lucas used to crinkle up the tag and hold it up to his eyes and ears for comfort.  But, this is no longer the trend.  These days, he’s all about his toes.  Within moments of being reunited with monkey, he’s threading the tag through his toes again and again.  He sleeps with the tag jammed in between his toes, and, when I’m dressing him in the morning, I have to pluck the tag out of his toes to pull his shorts on.

While he’s been inserting monkey’s tag into his toes for several months now, we’ve recently observed additional toe therapy behavior.  This week, he could only eat his morning Cheerios after placing each one between his first and second toes. I’ve also observed his toes being offered a sip of milk from his straw.

I’m sure, if you asked nicely, that he’d share his precious toe space with any food, drink, animal or mineral that you might need rejuvenated.  He’s nice like that.
