Potty Mouth

9 Jul

Lucas has recently started to tell us when he is going to the bathroom.  Pee or poop, he shouts out “poop!” and grabs at his diaper.

This makes for some interesting negotiation in the house.  Typical conversations go like this:

Lucas: “poop!!”
Mama: “Are you pooping? Thank you for telling me”
Lucas: “Yahh. Poop.”
Mama: “Do you need a diaper change? Are you sure you pooped?
Lucas: “Yahh.  Upstairs.” (location of most diaper changes)
Mama and Lucas then trudge upstairs to change diapers only to find out that he neither pooped nor peed as all farts are now labeled “poop!” as well.

This is all well and good at home.  We can play the poop game and discuss excrement in all detail he likes.  However, we are now treated to these conversations wherever we go.

Case in point.  For the first time in 14 months, I brought Luke over to my office last week.  We walked in and everyone gathered around excited to see him.  He waved to them all and then said “Poop!” while grabbing his crotch.

It was a proud moment.

We also get “poop” for everything, and now get an added quantification. For example yesterday it was “a big poop” and when asked how big? he said “HUGE!” Lovely.
