Snow Days

25 Jan

There was snow on the ground the day we got Tali.  We brought him home and he jumped around from snow mound to snow mound – burying his head into the piles of snow and licking up the melting ice on his nose.  At first, he was so used to the snow, he wouldn’t even walk on the sidewalk or asphalt – he’d prance along the snowy patches of grass, and we’d have to carry him over the neighbor’s driveway to get to the next stretch of snow paradise.

Luke, however, feels exactly the opposite.  Put him down on the driveway and he’ll make a beeline for trouble – some scrap of trash on the ground for him to eat, incoming traffic, etc… But, we learned this weekend that when you put him down in snow (even on the driveway), he freezes and stands immobile till someone comes and rescues him.  Literally hands out to catch his balance – looking a little bit like a surfer – staring up at us like “why, oh why did you put me here?”

Now, to be fair, we were ill-equipped for the snow.  He doesn’t own boots.  Or a snowsuit.  So we dressed him up in two pairs of pants, strapped socks onto his hands and wrapped his feet in sandwich bags (nope, not making that up).  Perhaps that was why he was frozen – he was afraid the fashion police would come barreling down our street to arrest him for such a major faux pas.

He did, however, like looking at the snow from inside the comforts of our house.  Sounds like my kind of kid!

OMG…I probably have a bin in the basement with boots in it. I’m so sorry I never passed them on! What size is he now?

It is SO not your fault/problem!! Tim said we didn’t need to buy them for this winter since he wouldn’t really “play” outside. He is wearing size 5 shoes right now, but we can still squeeze him into 4.5s if necessary.

Socks for gloves??? Is he really wearing crocs out in the snow?? Why wasn’t he in his bathing suit?? I will send up some money so you can buy him some appropriate clothes.

You gave him those crocs! He loved wearing them around the house and they were the most “waterproof” shoe we could find (aside for all the holes in them – hence the bags). Poor deprived baby only has three pairs of shoes to choose from. What mean parents he has 🙂
