10 Months Old

10 Oct

Dear Lucas —

You are double digits, baby.  Our big ten month old, full of spunk, energy and life.

You keep us on our toes these days – diving out of seats, across the room and running down the hallway all to save you from the imminent danger that you attract like a moth to a flame.  Your little hands slap the floor as you zoom off to pull up on this pointy corner or that teetering table. And, as you get better and better at pulling up to cruise along the furniture or walls, I’m already missing the constant refrain of the slippity slap, flat handed, one-knee down crawl that echoed through our house for the majority of this month.

Bundle-roo, this month we officially parted ways with baby mush.  These days, you eat what we eat, and Mama finds herself rushing home to get dinner on the table for all of us.  From tilipia to BBQ ribs, you shovel it in, and we’ve even seen you improving in your veggie consumption now that you can pick up pieces for yourself.  Of course, Tali knows where to stand during dinner time, because your “I’m done” signal is to begin throwing food on the floor.  When you are feeling picky, we can always get you to eat blueberries, yogurt, applesauce, black beans and ground turkey – not at the same time, of course.

Your “Mr. Trouble” nickname continues to ring true.  This month, you figured out how to open the cabinets (and remove everything within them), open the locks on Tali’s crate and stack everything your little hands can hold.  You also learned how to wave hello – which you do every time you see Tali or one of your stuffed animals – and clap your hands.  And, just twenty four hours before becoming an aged 10 month old, you sprouted your second tooth, next to the existing crooked one on the bottom.

You seem unconvinced that you need two naps a day anymore (by the way, you do), but are getting better and better about falling asleep for the first one without hysterics.  And, every night, you drink your last bottle with Daddy and read “Good Night Moon” with Mama, before babbling contentedly in your crib until you fall asleep.  We hear “da, da, da” and “ma, ma, ma” quite often these days – although rarely in connection to us.  This month you’ve started saying something that sounds like “that” and “hi” – and, I’m becoming increasingly convinced that you understand “hi” for what it means, as it is said in proper context and often along with a wave.

We spend quite a lot of time playing on the floor with your toys.  You love stacking things up and knocking them down, and pushing toys around the room – recently on two feet. Gigi re-introduced the swings into your life and you love ’em. Swinging is accompanied by lots of squeals and foot clapping.  Foot clapping also makes an appearance during particularly fun walks in the stroller.

There is no doubt that you are the light of our life.  Our world is a better, happier place because you are in it, and I’m thankful every day that you are ours.

I love you to the moon and back, little bundle.

Love,
Your Mama
